Lindsay Lohan's reckless behaviour has been tabloid fodder for quite a while. Her latest weird antics involve a very pointed attack on her own father on her blog.
Seems he's also a highly egocentric type and the two of them have a very ambivalent, dysfunctional relationship. It's all very sad, but it certainly explains a lot.
One thing that you can count on even in these supposedly more "gender aware" times is that alpha males are always more attractive to women.
Here's a perfect illustration: Michael Phelps becomes the greatest Olympian of all time, and he's immediately linked to 3 different women (all high achievers in their own right).
Okay, so some of this is gossip; he may not actually be involved with all of them. But it's interesting that there are so many people who believe he is. It just seems right to them that he's now a major "chick magnet". That's revealing in itself.
"To the victor, the spoils," as they say ...
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have a very strange relationship. I mean, they probably wouldn't even be together if they were not both famous entertainers. I'm sure there's quite a bit of genuine affection between them, but I get the feeling that they're also together for the publicity benefits. It has turned out to be a very good career move for both of them.
So they have quite a strange relationship with each other. And as a couple, they have an odd relationship with the media. They are often courting media attention, then every now and then they tell the paparazzi to back off.
Recently, for instance, Kidman gushed very candidly about her daughter on the radio, then asked for privacy while she and Urban showed her around Sydney. If they're concerned about her, surely they should have a consistent policy, and isolate the kid entirely from public scrutiny. Other celebrities have done this with their children, so it's not impossible.
But they don't. They're trying to have it both ways. And the kid is now part of this strange, contradictory world of theirs. I feel sorry for her, because she's going to suffer as a result eventually.
