Stephanie Rice still single 12/18/2009
Aussie swimmer Stephanie Rice is desperate and dateless. It's intriguing - and quite sad - that a young woman so sexy, accomplished and famous can't find a man. But I suspect it's exactly those qualities that have resulted in her lonely situation. Basically, most men would find her quite intimidating. Only a few would be comfortable enough in themselves to even approach her. This unfortunate syndrome doesn't apply in reverse. For young women, athletic success in a man is an aphrodisiac, not a turn-off. Young, fit and athletic men have countless women trying to bed them and/or wed them. And I don't believe this is a social or cultural thing that can ever be changed. It is primarily a result of human nature. Australia in the noughties is a very strange place. We are constantly told that sex is good, natural and healthy, yet even mild sexual imagery and references still have the power to cause outrage and condemnation. Advertising is a good example of this. Many of the most complained about ads in Australia this year had a sexual theme. Interestingly, two of these ads clearly objectified women. One involved pole dancers, another featured topless women. But only complaints about the pole dancing ad were upheld; those about the second were dismissed. The Advertising Standards Bureau clearly has a very peculiar and inconsistent set of criteria that it uses to pass judgements - not unlike our society in general! Twitter sends sex updates 12/14/2009
There must be countless people using Twitter for sexual purposes - either trying to meet others for sex, or trying to make money from those wanting to meet others for sex! But there's one bloke who's combined Twitter and sex in a totally unique and very mischievous way: He's rigged up a newlyweds' bed so that it posts a Twitter update every time they make love. The prankster remains anonymous. But I suspect that if he becomes known - which is a possibility - the media interest that will inevitably follow could be a source of deep regret for him. Needless to say, if the newlyweds are identified they'll be absolutely livid about it! Notable Aussie sex scandals 12/13/2009
There have been a few sex political sex scandals in Australia in recent months. Here is a good roundup of similar events going back many years. Love letters on bus tell a great story 12/11/2009
A mysterious and evocative collection of love letters along with photographs from several decades ago were found on a bus in the United Kingdom. As yet, the owner has not been located. There seems to be a great story of an international, high society romance contained in the letters. This combined with the way they were lost and the mystery over the owner's identity make them particularly intriguing. Actually, the whole story is great raw material for a film. Which is why I suspect there are already plans afoot to make one about it. Cloe to a year ago the murder trial of Amanda Knox had only just started, yet it was already garnering a lot of media interest. That clearly had a lot to do with her sexual attractiveness. Recently, as the trial culminated with a guilty verdict, the story has been all over over the mainstream media. Hers is also one of the most searched for names on Google. Another sexy young siren called Jaimee Grubbs - who was involved in a much less serious moral transgression involving Tiger Woods - also makes that list. Jordan's crazy love life 12/07/2009
Becoming a celebrity must be like signing a pact with the devil. You get huge rewards but end up losing your soul. And your relationships are almost certain to become completely crazy and tumultuous. Take the case of Jordan (aka Katie Price). She's had a bitter and highly publicized breakup with fellow celeb Peter Andre. And the relationship she subsequently entered is mess as well. Her latest bizarre act: To reunite with this guy, a cage fighter called Alex Reid, because she's worried he might divulge intimate details of their sex life to the media. Originally she thought there was no risk of this occurring, since he'd signed an agreement promising never to do so. But it turns out this is not valid, because he signed it as his cross-dressing alter ego! It's so bizarre you just couldn't make this stuff up. Zoosk social dating site gets funding boost 12/07/2009
There has been a lot of commentary about the competition between social networking sites and dating sites. And now one huge site called Zoosk is combining the two concepts. It's clearly working well, because the site has just received a $30 million boost to expand its operations globally and improve its functionality. Protecting the Tiger Woods brand 12/06/2009
Things keep getting worse for Tiger Woods. As well as other lovers being identified, some of his highly embarrassing text messages and e-mails to them have been published in tabloids. So now he's offering his wife tens of millions of dollars to stay in the marriage. I think that if he feels he has to do that, the marriage is probably finished anyway. It just reduces it to a financial arrangement. (Although I suppose that when you are that successful; that much of a "brand" pretty much everything you do is assessed in financial terms more than in any other way!) |
