Dating sites have long been plagued by Nigerian e-mail scammers who use fake profiles to attract new victims. Another kind of deception has been growing in use lately. In this one, a fake profile is placed to lure other members into sending their mobile phone numbers. Then numerous texts are sent to the owners for which they are charged.
This has become a big problem in Australia. Thankfully the authorities are cracking down on it.
