OkCupid says iPhone users get more sex

8/12/2010

From time to time dating sites survey their members on various issues and release the results to the media. It's a clever tactic, since it serves to promote these sites as well as offer some interesting (and often entertaining) information.

A recent example: Ok Cupid has found that iPhone users are more sexually active than those who use the Android phone.

The methodology might not be the best, but it certainly makes for an amusing story. And it will probably increase sales of the iPhone a little, too!

iDate Conference held in Beverly Hills

Not surprisingly, the rise of the iPhone has spawned a dating spinoff. Here's an article about a recent business convention related to this niche.

What's notable in the article is the article's snarky tone. The writer clearly finds the whole idea of people being so technological, specific and calculating in their quest for love quite offensive. This seems to be quite a common attitude, and it's understandable.

Australian dating etiquette transformed by technology

6/19/2010

Research by Telstra has shown that the vast array of communications technology available now (such as e-mail and SMS) has greatly altered the way people set up dates in Australia. This is hardly surprising, although it's still notable.

Still, it's interesting that despite the transformation in the way people make initial contact, get to know each other a little and then go out on a date, everything that happens emotionally from then on hasn't changed that much. Relationships are still mysterious and unpredictable - just as they always were.

It seems that a lot of people believe technology can solve these problems too, only to find out that it's not like that at all. That's one of the downsides to this technologydriven dating revolution.

Niche dating for Apple geeks

Here's yet another niche dating site. This one's called Cupidtino, and it's designed specifically for fans of products made by the computer giant Apple. These people do have a reputation for possessing certain annoying character traits. Hence this article's slightly alarmed tone.

Sexy lipstick could be problematic

A lipstick that changes color according to the wearer's body chemistry is now on the market in England. It is supposed to reveal when she is in the mood for sex.

It sounds like a very cute and clever product. But we might hear some negative press about it before long. At the very least some feminists will be unimpressed that such a product even exists. And I suspect that some wearers will not be happy when men see the color change as a green light for an unwanted sexual advance!

Flitter dating events

3/4/2010

Twitter is now being used as a dating tool in "Flitter" events, in which users of the social networking site congregate and connect with those they are attracted to via their mobiles and Blackberries.

This does seem to be a convoluted approach. I mean, they are in the same place as other single people. Why not just cut to the chase and go up and talk to them directly?

Sex robots for sale

A customizable sex robot has been unveiled in Las Vegas. While this synthetic female companion isn't that sophisticated, it certainly is a huge advance on the blow-up doll! And with digital technology now so advanced that it can make cinematic creations seem truly life-like - for instance in the mind blowing movie Avatar - it seems only a matter of time before these sex robots reach a level of realism close to that envisaged in science fiction films and novels.

Twitter sends sex updates

12/14/2009

There must be countless people using Twitter for sexual purposes - either trying to meet others for sex, or trying to make money from those wanting to meet others for sex!

But there's one bloke who's combined Twitter and sex in a totally unique and very mischievous way: He's rigged up a newlyweds' bed so that it posts a Twitter update every time they make love.

The prankster remains anonymous. But I suspect that if he becomes known - which is a possibility - the media interest that will inevitably follow could be a source of deep regret for him. Needless to say, if the newlyweds are identified they'll be absolutely livid about it!

Sex robots will soon be a reality

The idea of sex with robots has often been used in science fiction. But it looks like it won't be long before it will be a reality.

This is the view of computer programming expert named David Levy Loebner, who has written a book called Love and Sex with Robots. He believes "the sex robot will happen fairly soon". He thinks it might save the adult entertainment industry, which has lost much of its revenue because of the internet making so much of its product completely free to access.
